As a professional recruitment agency Alchemy provides a service to employers
that includes interviewing candidates face to face before we recommend them
for a company interview. This will also benefit you as the candidate; ensuring
that we have had the chance to discuss in full your background and your
future career objectives.
After you have made an application we will meet with you for an initial interview.
The Alchemy Interview is an important part of the process and is carried out by an Alchemy
Consultant using a structured competency framework.
What is a Competency Based Interview?
A structured interview using a series of questions designed to collect
information on the competencies that are important to the job in question.
It differs from the more usual biographical interview in that it focuses
on specific competencies or skills rather than using your CV to form the
basis of the interview.
You will be asked to share specific past examples of situations relating
to the required competencies. These examples may well include situations
where you could have used a better approach and have served as a learning
experience as well as situations that had a successful outcome.
Examples of competencies
Drive
Motivation
Sales success
Customer service
Team work
Planning
Tenacity
Problem solving
Flexibility
How to prepare
Before you go to your interview try to think of past experiences that you
have had that might prepare you for being successful in the role you are
applying for.
Example of a competency question
Planning (definition: well organised, plans ahead and maintains comprehensive
records, efficient time manager.)
- When have you had extra work to do at short notice?
- How did you approach the situation?
- How did you decide what to do next?
- How did you reorganise the other work you had planned?
- What happened in the end?
